What is the equator?

 equator

The equator is a large circle that wraps around the globe and connects the two geographical poles of the Earth; it is an imaginary line that passes over the Earth's surface; its degree is zero; and the celestial equator is astronomically defined as a large circle in which the celestial sphere intersects with the terrestrial equator, located a short distance away.

What is the equator?

Equator countries

The equator passes over about 14 countries and territories located on Earth, and the following is information about them:

  1. The Atlantic Ocean at the Gulf of Guinea passes through the equator at 0°, 8°, 10°, 20°, 30° and 40°.
  2. Sao Tome and Principe At Elahio das Rolas passes the equator along a length of 7 degrees.
  3. Gabon passes the equator along 10 degrees.
  4. The Republic of the Congo passes through the equator along a length of 15 degrees.
  5. Democratic Republic of the Congo The equator passes along 20 degrees.
  6. Uganda The equator passes along a length of 30 degrees.
  7. Lake Victoria passes the equator along 33 degrees.
  8. Kenya passes the equator along a length of 35-40 degrees.
  9. Somalia passes the equator along 41 degrees.
  10. The Indian Ocean passes through more than one length of the equator, and they are 43 degrees, 50 degrees, 60 degrees, 70 degrees, 80 degrees and 90 degrees.
  11. Maldives The equator passes through Gnaviani Atoll and Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll with a length of 73 degrees.
  12. Indonesia At a length of 130 degrees, the equator crosses across Cape Island.
  13. The Pacific Ocean crosses the equator at 88 degrees, 100 degrees, 110 degrees, 120 degrees, 130 degrees, 140 degrees, 150 degrees, 160 degrees, 170 degrees, and 180 degrees.
  14. Kiribati At a length of 173 degrees, the equator runs through the Nunote Atolls and Aranuca islands.
  15. The smaller islands of the United States of America, which are Jarvis Island, Holland Island and Baker Island, cross the equator with a length of 176 degrees.
  16. Ecuador passes through the equator along 80 degrees.
  17. Colombia intersects the equator through the Amazon forest at a length of 70 degrees.
  18. Brazil and a group of islands in the direction of the Amazon River passes the equator along a length ranging between 50-60 degrees.

the length of the equator

The length of the equator is determined by two sorts of criteria. The International Astronomical Union was interested in unifying the equator's radius, which is approximately 6,378,140 meters, in 1976. The International Union of Geophysics and Geodesy then re-set it at 6,378,137 m, which was adopted in the global geodetic system. However, the Union decided that the international astronomer must maintain the value that was reached in 1976 AD, and the approximate length of the equator in both standards is 40,075,016,686 m.

equator climate

The tropical climate is only affected twice a year, at the autumnal and spring equinoxes, when the sun is above the equator till the end of the year. The tropics' climate is characterized by its hot nature, which is accompanied by a set of limited temperature fluctuations.

The equator's climate contributes to the emergence of two seasons that affect tropical environments: wet and dry. The wet season lasts for most days of the year and aids in the emergence of tropical rainforests, the most famous of which are the Congo forests in Central Africa and the Amazon forests in South America.

The warm, wet tropics are part of the cultures of a set of peoples, such as the Gabonese Fang Fei. They are farmers that rely on warm weather and precipitation to cultivate a variety of agricultural commodities, such as potatoes and corn, and they are also interested in growing cattle that have been raised in the area.

celestial equator

The celestial equator is a large circle surrounding the imaginary celestial sphere, located in plane equilibrium with the Earth's equator; that is, the celestial equator represents the process of projecting the Earth's equator onto space, and its slope is about 23.5 degrees; celestial bodies located near this line are visible in various countries around the world due to the tilt of the Earth's axis.

Longitude and Latitude

Where the points scattered on the surface of the Earth are drawn through lines of longitude and latitude, and is similar to the method of drawing points used in graphs, which are known by the values (x) and (y), and latitude lines are defined as the angular distance of a place located south or north of the equator, and longitude lines are defined as the angular distance of a place located south or north of the equator, and longitude lines are defined as the angular The North Pole is at 90 degrees north latitude, while the South Pole is at 90 degrees south latitude.

Longitude is the angle distance of a place to the west or east of the Greenwich meridian that passes through the Greenwich region of England, meaning that the measure of longitude is 0 degrees; That is, it is located directly south or north of Greenwich; That is, it is located on the Greenwich line, and when the longitude is at 180 degrees from the west, this means that to reach the Greenwich line in the east, it will pass through all places of the world, and longitude and latitude are those basic lines drawn on maps of the globe; The lines extending from the north to the south are the lines of longitude, while the lines extending from the east to the west are the latitude lines.
